Artist's Comments
One of a series of clip art cetaceans done in chibi-esque style. The third cetacean to join the series is Balaenoptera musculus, the Blue Whale.
The largest animal to live on Earth, it is also known around the world as the Sulfur-Bottom Whale. This name is derived from the yellowish coloration of the whale's ventral side, an effect caused by the collective presence of millions of tiny algae called diatoms which are a type of algae consumed by the whale's primary prey, krill. |
