nice idea, i like the subtle shading. though, i wonder how it would have looked if those were killer whales and you reversed one of their color, and position them where their eye patch would be the ying yang dots. uhhh do you get what i'm saying?
Actually, I have this complete fascination with black and white cetaceans. There is just this harmony about the two simple colors on one animal, and while there are few black and white species out there, they always seem to have them in the most fascinating patterns. So of course I always seem to associate with a ying-yang, and while I considered doing a couple of orcas to place as the ying and yang, I started to reconsider. Orcas are so well known and beautiful cetaceans, yes, but I wanted to try a much more rare species, something that would catch someone's attention-- so the Dall's porpoise came to mind. They're not as popular, so it catches people's interest quickly. I also love that they have a bit patch of white on their flanks, makes for an excellent inversion.
That, and normally I don't think all that coherently and this was an excuse to not read my biology labs in advance. Bothersome things, those labs, they always seem to cut into my drawing time.

me too! I love 'em all, but black and white really attract me. Ever heard of the Southern and Northern Right Whale Dolphins? black and white. very thin, and no dorsal fin.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
